Weds 5-21...UL Mixer after Opening Ceremonies
This event was held immediately following the ceremonies and had a large turnout. We munched on pizzas and snacks, met each other, exchanged emails, played games and generally had a great place to "hang out." The Monson membership planned a volleyball game for later in the week and the activities for the UL were covered as well as the TM meetings that took place that afternoon.
Thursday 5-22 Improv Fiesta- UL hosts the Performance Stage
UL team participants managed the event. We had a huge crowd in attendance and hosted around 40 teams at our stage. Two sets of MCs manned the stage that night: #1 was Katie from Luther College, Dennis from Occidental in CA. and Reg from Univ of MN. #2 was Jennifer and Tara from Texas A & M, and Ryan from Ole Miss. Event Staff were Walter, Gemma, Michael, Jennifer, Tara, Jared, Anna, Tray, Cliff, Jamie, and John. Ernie Chang and Diana Dignan were the site managers. Lise, Ryan, Rusty, Jo and Melinda from Illinois opened the show for our stage. Our "appraisers" were Rocco (Ohio) and Tim (Mass).
Every volunteer and performer received a special event pin, donated by Lasting Impressions.
Special thank you to VOMBO, the official booster club for DI, Inc., who donated puppet penguins to hand out to the audience. There were lots of freebies, actually , thanks to the generosity of the DI community!
Friday 5-23 - Secondary and University Graduations
Saturday 5-24 Annual UL Meeting 3 PM (Secondary teams also invited)
Meeting was held in the Shiloh Room at the University Center. Refreshments were provided- fruit, veggies, snack foods. We had an excellent turn out and a good DIalogue and DIscussion. Team members from secondary teams that graduated this year were also present and made excellent contributions to the planning. Names were taken of students that want to be included on the Challenge group for next year. A pin design was discussed. Graduating college students were encouraged to join the DIA and to consider becoming Challenge DIvelopers for DI!
Discussion points and proposals were to be passed on to the Board of Trustees and included with the annual reports. Copies of the minutes will be available on this site soon.
Saturday 5-24 University Level "Recovery Party"
Based on proposals from the UL DI Challenge group, the theme this year was a little different- more of a "coffee house" atmosphere. The appetizers were terrific, but we also had Starbucks coffees and flavorings to sample. We did have music but it was a little softer and the lighting in the Arena Dining was softly lit, rather than dark like in the past. We had comfortable sofas to lounge on and a chance to really talk with the other team members and trade pins. Everyone agreed it was a much better set up than ever before!
