Sheila Swanson is the Program Director for the Destination ImagiNation program. Working closely with many volunteers, she facilitates the creation and the implementation of all the Program Materials, including the Team Challenges, Instant Challenges and Guides. She also enjoys helping with the creation of various Special Projects programs. Sheila has been involved with Destination ImagiNation for more than 22 years, a span in which she’s worked in such roles as Team Manager, Regional and Affiliate Appraiser and Challenge Master, Regional Director and International Challenge Master. Sheila graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Education and Spanish. After graduation, she and her husband, Frank, lived in Europe for a year, settling in a small fishing village in Portugal, and while Sheila submerged herself in the local culture and language, Frank completed sculpture for a major one-man show. After working as a first woman UPS driver, Sheila then supervised the accounting department at UPS. Then, in order to be available for her children at home, Sheila created her own accounting firm specializing in serving small businesses, condominium associations and shopping centers. She loves travel and learning about other cultures, as well as language, good literature, funky plays, offbeat movies and baseball.
