Chief Executive Officer

DII CEO Position Overview
The new CEO will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision.
  • Cultivate and maintain a balanced funding stream and attract new support including major individual donors, national and regional foundations, and corporate and federal, state and local government funding.
  • Build on Destination ImagiNation’s already strong brand and elevate its visibility and relationships regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • Partner with an active and committed Board of Trustees as keepers of the mission.
  • Work with the Management Team to further develop the organizational structure and infrastructure.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Position Destination ImagiNation as a leader in the public domain regarding innovative educational programs by spending significant time speaking, serving on panels, testifying before corporate and legislative bodies at all levels and promoting the organization in the media both nationally and internationally. 
  • Promote and interact with our Affiliates.
  • With the Destination Board of Trustees and DI staff, identify trends, cultivate new funding sources, retain existing funding and develop and execute an annual fundraising plan.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with legislators and officials in federal, state and local governments and business and community leaders to build recognition and support and to promote and to advocate for the organization. ‘
  • With the Marketing staff, create new partnerships and innovative ways to market the organization, maintain program quality, identify trends and market demand, and ensure the DI programs align with organization's mission.
  • Work closely with all committees of the Board of Trustees to develop strategy and, with the senior Management Team, implement DI’s strategic and annual work plans.
  • With the DI Controller, develop the annual budget and performance metrics, maintaining strong fiscal oversight and management and ensuring compliance with best practices and relevant regulations.

Work with the senior Management Team to further develop the organizational structure and infrastructure.

Qualifications
The CEO must be experienced in organizational transformation and have a passion for educational development. The successful candidate will offer many of following qualifications and attributes:

  • Strong, entrepreneurial and accessible leadership.
  • Hands-on yet collaborative style.
  • Understanding of the impact of economic, socio-political, and educational changes.
  • Exceptional government relations and media skills.
  • A track record of success in fund raising, including the ability to support and expand the organization. Proven ability to secure sponsorships and large donations.
  • Highest ethical standards and integrity.
  • Creativity and a proactive ability to connect potential allies.
  • Proven skills in strategic analysis, planning, and financial management.
  • Polished written and oral communication skills and professional presentation.
  • Skill in bringing together diverse constituencies and building partnerships.
  • Experience effectively leveraging a diverse Board of Directors.
  • Understanding of non profit management in a complex environment.
  • Understanding of the complexity of the recruiting, management, and retention of a volunteer workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, manage, mentor and retain a diverse staff.
  • An understanding of the education and training environments.
  • Some knowledge of the Destination Imagination program helpful.
  • A wide network of contacts and credibility with business leaders, the media, foundation and government leaders, and other opinion leaders.

This is a full time, exempt position currently located in Glassboro, NJ, 25 miles SE of Philadelphia.

College-Level Internships for Summer 2008

Destination ImagiNation, Inc. is pleased to offer four College-Level Internships for Summer 2008. As the
world leader in creativity, teamwork and problem solving programs, Destination ImagiNation, Inc. provides these openings to extend educational and career-building experience for eligible alumni of the Destination ImagiNation® program.

The Summer 2008 Internships will begin on June 16 and end on August 8, 2008 and will take place at the
Destination ImagiNation, Inc. Intergalactic Headquarters in Glassboro, NJ. Each intern is eligible for a oneweek
break during this eight week period. The allowance for each internship is $2500. DII will help (nonfinancially) with housing arrangements at a local university and logisitics for a temporary move to Glassboro, NJ for the period of this internship.

While each of the four internships has a specific set of projects, all four interns will work collaboratively as a
team to generate, focus, plan and implement solutions. The following projects will be assigned to interns
based on experience and interest:
  • PRODUCT DESIGN AND MARKETING: Development and production of new ShopDI resources (e.g.
    Instant Challenge, presentation skill, improv, set/scenery)
  • WEB DESIGN: Overhaul of the structure (and improved integration) of the Destination ImagiNation®
    and Destination ImagiNation, Inc. web sites.
  • PUBLICATION DEVELOPMENT: Gather data from Volume 1 of ByDI-sign from 2007-08 and develop,
    design and produce Volume 2 for 2008-09.
  • PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT (DI eXtreme®): Gather data from the past four years of DI eXtreme program “work,” update the programming plan, develop/produce updated product/line for ShopDI and Global Finals.
    Candidate Qualifications
  • Must be an Alum of the DI program
  • Must be enrolled in college and have a sophomore classification or higher
  • Must be able to reside in Glassboro, NJ area and get to and from office for the entire internship period (8 weeks)
  • Must have two recommendations (one from college and one from DI “experience”)
  • Must demonstrate interest in and aptitude for one or more of the four internship projects
  • Must complete application and interview process as established by DII (see attached application)
    Internship Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned projects and responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with other interns
  • Present a post-experience report summarizing the internship experience (due 1 week after term)
    Internship Experience
  • Opportunity to develop real “products” that will go immediately out to the public
  • Opportunity to learn from a host of leaders and talented professionals across the DII staff and
    volunteer network
  • Opportunity to be a project leader and work collaboratively with a team on real projects that will develop “resume-level” experience
